Understanding the role of transportation in combating human trafficking in California

Human trafficking, a form of modern slavery, is the recruitment, transport, transfer persons using force, fraud or coercion to exploit them for act labor sex. According International Labor Organization, human trafficking fastest growing organized crime with approximately $150 billion in annual profits and 40.3 million individuals trapped slave-like conditions. While it not compulsory involve transportation industry plays critical role combating as traffickers often rely system recruit, move victims either sex forced labor. Recognizing importance transportation, multiple anti-trafficking stakeholders California have started initiatives address problem. This project investigates combatting by conducting survey followed up semi-structured in-depth interviews key stakeholders. The aims to: 1) assess knowledge about current policies, trainings, public awareness partnerships supply chain management among practitioners, 2) highlight gaps opportunities identifying counter-trafficking strategies, best practices, data collection, information-sharing, collaboration, legislative administrative changes.
